2030 Frankfurt Motor Show: "THE GERMAN CAR CRUSHED PLANET"

F RANCOFORTE, September 17, 2009 - The entrance to the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Greenpeace activists placed an enormous sculpture that represents the world crushed by the tires of a car and have made the most polluting models eyes and sharp teeth. The protest is against cars with high climate impact made by German car manufacturers.

The activists unfurled banners addressed to German manufacturers with the inscription "Pollution and climate killer", while with the message "Stop eating-fuel" urged German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to this' inauguration, to take a stand against the emission too high for German cars.

"We have the technology to produce cars that do 100 miles with 3 liters, but the switch to efficient cars still difficult to occur" - says Andrea Lepore, campaign manager for Greenpeace Climate and Transportation. "While the industry is able to offer models with low environmental impact, the German manufacturers continue to build cars heavier and more powerful."

The report just released by the organization ' Transport & Environment' , based on official data from the European Commission, clearly shows that while some manufacturers are making strides in reducing emissions, others are still very far from the targets set by the EU for 2012 and 2015. The current average emission of European manufacturers of 153 grams per kilometer, far away from 140 g / km, which ten years ago, car manufacturers have promised to achieve by 2008.

According to figures from Transport & Environment ', the record for highest average emissions is up to Daimler / Mercedes, with no less than 175g/km of CO2. The figure is 23% higher emissions that cars from the German will have to be met by 2015.

"The new hybrid and electric technologies offer enormous opportunities for the future - says Andrea Lepore - In order to achieve important results in the short term, using technologies already available , all car manufacturers can and should make cars lighter and more efficient. "
